SECOND CHANCES ARE OVERRATED
El Camino Creative Inc.
The criminal justice system is the one of the oldest known entities in American History. It’s disastrous policies have left men and women swimming in seas of agony and paying for crimes that they have already paid for.
THE MOST DIFFICULT PROJECT
As a web designer, we always dream of working on an influential project. A project that will change the world in some obscure way. I never thought I could be a part of a project that would in fact do this. The goal of this website was to show the nation that there are easier ways to lower crime in America. That if the government focused on lowering the recidivism rate, then crime would plummet.
ONE SHOULD NEVER GIVE UP
I worked closely with prison and jail advocates, admin personnel, COs and Wardens to gain a better understanding of the needs of our target audience. I then collaborated with sponsors such as Ted Talks, the ACLU, The Innocence Project, and the owners of El Camino to come up with an intense website design that would communicate our message effectively. I strongly believe that people should suffer the consequences for their actions, but to what extent? That is the million dollar question.
The hardest part of this project was how to address the donation buttons and how to convince the world that donating to a self-inflicted marginalized demographic that hurt others is a good cause. So, my idea was to focus on how to lower crime rates in America. By focusing on that, donations have risen by over $10K in less than six months from a grassroots idea.
